IT WAS a poignant return for a Falmouth couple at this year's Bark in the Park, after their Boxer dog tragically died at last year's event.

Alison and Dave Smith watched in horror as five-year old Yogi suffered a heart attack from which he never recovered at the annual show in the town's Kimberley Park.

Speaking to the Packet at this year's event, Dave said: "It was during the puppy class last year that Yogi went to lie down and wiggle his way in. He usually did this when he was trying to squeeze his way into something, but this time he was having a heart attack.

"The vets tried everything they could to resuscitate him but were unable to. I felt sick before I came here today, but I'm glad I have now I'm here."

The couple returned to present the Yogi Memorial Cup to the winner of the Best Puppy under six months, which was won by Jamie Anthony and his cocker spaniel Ash, from Breage, near Helston.

There was a host of other sections at the fun show, such as Best Treat Catcher, Most 'Ansome Boy and Best Child Handler.

The event was organised by Ruth Collett, of Rosemullion Veterinary Practice, who sponsor the event.

Funds raised will go to K9 Crusaders, Cornwall Retired Greyhound Trust and Cornwall & Devon Boxer Rescue.
