A heartbroken family has revealed a teenage girl who took a ecstasy-type drug was resuscitated twice but died in her mother's arms - after suffering a THIRD heart attack.

Shakira Pellow, 15, took what is thought to be a blue triangular tablet with a Lego Duplo logo on Friday night.

She died in hospital the following morning while two girls and a boy, all aged 15, also suffered from toxic after-effects but have since been discharged.

Shakira's greiving family have now revealed the teen was successfully resusciated twice but couldn't be brought back to life after a third massive heart attack.

On the way to hospital the family said her heart stopped twice and the second resuscitation took six minutes for her heart to start again.

Once they arrived at hospital Shakira, of Camborne, Cornwall, was put into an induced coma and on life support with mum Rita and other family members by her bedside.

In a statement the family said: "For us, her family, it was the longest night of our lives.

"She was stable, however during the early hours, her condition worsened and her organs began to fail.

"They had to put Shakira on dialysis but after a third heart attack and 13 minutes of resuscitation there was no coming back.

"Sadly our beautiful baby girl, sister and auntie was gone. She died in her mother's arms and with us all by her side, holding her hand."

Cops seized the substance they had taken for tests but Shakira's family said they wanted to issue a warning to other youngsters about the dangers of drugs.

The statement added: "As the family of Shakira Louise Pellow, we are all devastated about the circumstance of her death and we want to raise with the risks of taking drugs.

"Shakira was a young, bubbly girl with her whole life ahead of her. Words cannot even explain how we are all feeling at this time, we are all absolutely heartbroken.

"We want to just get the word out to parents, grandparents, teenagers, anyone who reads this to become more aware of the effects of drugs. They're not fun, they kill.

"We would not wish what we have been through over the past 48 hours on our worst enemy."

The family said they were four months away from celebrating Shakira's 16th birthday and were planning a big party with all her family and friends.

They added: "Like any other teenager, she was demanding and a pain in the arse, but on the flip side she knew how to make everyone laugh and her smile lit a room as soon as she entered.

"She was well loved by her whole family and friends. She lived with her Mum, Rita and her partner Lee, and enjoyed quality time with her Dad, Shaun.

"Rita says she is absolutely heart broken. Not only has she lost her daughter, she has lost her soul mate and best friend and cant imagine life without her.

"She had a niece and two nephews: Tanisha, Tyreece and Theo. She spent a lot of time with her eldest sister Jessica and brother in law Marcus. Jess said she and Shakira were two peas in a pod and were forever making jokes and having a laugh. Shakira was also close with her other sister Nikita. They had a love/hate relationship but at the end of the day they always had each others back."

The family said that on Friday evening, Shakira was excited to meet up with her friends and spent time together in the garden listening to music.

They added: At about 9pm she left with her friends to go to the park to meet up with other friends.

"About an hour later Shakira's mum Rita and her partner Lee get a knock at the door saying Shakira has collapsed."

Det Supt Roy Linden, from Devon and Cornwall Police, described it as a "truly tragic incident".

He said: "We want to warn children and young people of the dangers surrounding taking drugs.

"We ask parents and carers to speak to their children about the risks associated with drugs."

Sid Willett, from the Cornwall Drug and Alcohol Action Team, said the substance involved could cause "fitting, overheating and severe irritation".

He said: "You can bet your bottom dollar this drug could be in every corner of the UK.

"It is possible these tablets could have come from abroad or on the dark web".

Two 17-year-old boys, one from Camborne and the other from Redruth, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.

They were later released on bail pending further enquiries, officers said.
