A PUBLIC meeting is being held in Porthleven this Saturday in a bid to find a solution for the village's struggling post office.

Last week the Packet reported how owners Paul and Sharon Edwards had "literally run out of money" and were appealing for the support of the community to help their Fore Street business survive.

The village responded, with more than 130 people showing interest in the meeting that has been organised by Bev Plunkett, although it is not linked to her role as deputy mayor of Porthleven Town Council.

The open public meeting will take place from 6.15pm this Saturday, in Porthleven Public Hall.

Chris Brooks and Carla Regler of Seadrift had initially offered the use of their restaurant, but such was the level of support that a bigger venue had to be found.

Last week Paul told the Packet that he and Sharon, who have run the post office for the last 11 years, were having having to take each day as it came, adding: "We love the village. We love our home. We love the people here.

"We're just hoping people can support us more than they have been, or start supporting us if they haven't been. We're going to fight until the very end."

The aim of the meeting is to try and find a way that the post office can stay open and be financed.
