Armed police swooped on Falmouth yesterday evening following reports of a man allegedly threatening people with a broken bottle.

The incident centred around Boslowick Road, with a riot van seen parked in the car park of Co-op at around 7pm, with an ambulance in the Penmere Station car park. A helicopter could also be heard circling overhead.

Police tasered a man before arresting him on suspicion of making threats to kill.

A police spokesperson said: "Police attended Bolsowick Road, Falmouth late yesterday afternoon following concerns for the welfare of a man in the area.

"Units attended and located a man who was in possession of a broken bottle and making threats to harm.

"Officers discharged a taser and the man in question was arrested."

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and was taken to hospital for treatment, before returning to police custody, where he remains and awaits questioning.

The road was was shut off for more an hour.
