A woman is in hospital this afternoon after a Penzance shop was allegedly held up at knifepoint.

Lucille’s general store in Alverton Terrace was at the centre of the drama earlier today, with armed police descending on it.

Shop owner Barry Heinz Mould has since written on Facebook, explaining why he has been forced to close for the rest of the day.

He said: “As you may know or have heard, my shop Lucille’s was involved in an incident that involved Lucille herself being held at knifepoint at our shop “She is ok, a little bit shaken and is up at hospital and the man who did this has been arrested - but with police I have to close my shop for the rest of the day.

“My sincere apologies but family is very important to me and Lucille and George are family. Thank you for your understanding.”

At least seven police officers, including two of them armed, could be seen in Alverton Terrace.

Police have since confirmed that a man was arrested and taken to Camborne Police. The spokesperson added that no one was injured as a result of the incident.

No one was available on the shop number when the Packet tried to call.
