Producing electricity using a potato was among the activities at an event designed to show how energy can be made without fossil fuels.
Organised by Stithians Energy Group with Helston and the Lizard Peninsula Friends of the Earth, visitors to Helston's Coronation Park could find out about wind power and test their cycle power to light up bulbs, learning how much less pedalling - and therefore electricity - was needed to light a low energy bulb than a high energy one.
One of the most popular experiments though was seeing how much electrical current could be produced by sticking copper and zinc nails in different fruits and vegetables.
Diana Wilson, one of the organisers of Fun Without Fossil Fuels, said: "It's part of a European-wide day of action all about reducing our use of fossil fuels. It's to highlight the fact that fossil fuels are part of the last century. There's so many other alternatives now."
