The owners of Rose's News in Falmouth are determined to keep the shop running as long as possible.

They have been given planning permission to turn the shop into a flat within the next three years, but say that there are no immediate plans to shut down.

Owner Wendy Frost said: "We will shut at some point, but we don't know when. We'd always let our customers know, we wouldn't just go. We don't sell as many newspapers as we used to but we're still viable at the moment, we've just got to look to the future."

Her husband David said: "We have got three years to decide what to do. We wouldn't just close and let nobody know about it, we have got a lot of nice customers that we care about."

Wendy added: "Even when we are gone, we're going to make sure all our deliveries are taken over."

The newsagents at the top of Killigrew Street opened 12 years ago when David and Wendy moved to Falmouth from Liverpool.

In 2016, the couple stepped in to take over Falmouth's Poppy Appeal, and raised £16,288.65 in their first year alone.

Wendy has confirmed that the Poppy Appeal will still be going ahead this year.

The Packet reported on August 29 that the owners of the shop planned to close.

Their planning application to turn the shop into a flat cited falling newspapers sales as a reason for the business becoming unsustainable.

They hope that the money earned from renting out the flat will provide a steady income for retirement.
