A woman from Falmouth has been shortlisted for a Pride of Britain award for her fundraising efforts with Pink Wig Events and Tanya's Courage Trust.

Michelle Bray is one of four people in the South West who are up for the award which is presented by Carol Vorderman in London.

Michelle said: "It's a bit surreal. We try to give as much to the charity as we can and to be recognised for it is amazing."

She was interviewed on camera by ITV at Palacio Lounge on Thursday to give the judges an idea of the fundraising work she does.

Pink Wig Events started in 2009 when friend Sally Hicks-Wood was diagnosed with breast cancer.

A group of friends got together to take her on a night out, and they all donned pink wigs for fun, soon realising that they had a natural idea for a fundraiser when passers by thought they were doing a charity event and asked where they could donate.

The following year they started formally collecting donations, and raised £1,000 with a turnout of around 125.

Nowadays, Michelle says the Pink Wig Night attracts around 1,000 people and has raised a whopping £20,000 a year for the past few years.

Michelle joined the committee in 2011, and also does a great deal of work for Tanya's Courage Trust in Penryn.
