Reports of a fire turned out to be a false alarm
Reports of a fire in a lift shaft in The Sidings student accommodation block this evening turned out to be a false alarm caused by residents burning their food.
Initial reports came in at around 8.30pm suggesting that smoke was seen billowing from a lift shaft.
Firefighters attended and determined that the smoke actually came from one of the kitchens.
Residents were evacuated, and were allowed to return to their flats at around 9.00pm.
