Police in Newquay have made an arrest as part of a pre-planned operation.

Officers from Newquay police station, supported by officers from the Force Support Group based at Bodmin, conducted a pre-planned arrest at a property on the Mayfield Estate on Wednesday.

At the property, police arrested a 49-year-old local man.

The pre-planned arrest was in connection to an allegation of rape that took place in the town last November.

Inspector Dave Meredith, said: “Following the arrest and during a search of the premises, a large amount of controlled drugs and money was seized.

"The suspect was subsequently interviewed by detectives at Newquay police station on suspicion of rape and possession with intent to supply.

“He has now been released under investigation pending further enquiries by Newquay CID.

“This was a significant find of controlled drugs, and the streets of Newquay are a lot safer after this seizure.

"Police will continue to take robust action against anybody involved in the supply of controlled drugs.
