STEAM lovers have a rare chance to see the Flying Scotsman when the famous old locomotive rumbles into Cornwall on Saturday.
The express passenger train service has operated between Edinburgh and London, via the East Coast Main Line.
The service began in 1862, while the name was officially adopted in 1924.
It will leave Plymouth early on Saturday morning and travel to Penzance. On arrival there, it will be hauled by a diesel engine back to Plymouth.
In the afternoon, it will embark on a round trip to Par, for which tickets are still available.
Exact timings of the train are deliberately not announced, due to safety fears over enthusiastic train-spotters.
There are four ticket options for a trip onboard the Plymouth to Par train:
Pullman Style Dining in elegant 1950’s or 1960’s carriages with wood-panelled walls, table lamps and curtains combined with our most comfortable seats and highest level of service. Passengers receive a glass of champagne on boarding and will be served an evening meal over the two legs of the journey with half a bottle of wine per head. £199
Premier Dining in comfortable 1960’s Restaurant Cars with wood panelling and large picture windows. Passengers receive a glass of champagne on boarding and will be served an evening meal over the two legs of the journey. Price for Plymouth – Par return £159pp
First Class, where passengers are seated in compartments for up to six people or in 1960’s open carriages at tables for four. Shortly after boarding you will receive a glass of champagne along with tea and coffee. Pastries are served on the return journey but you can also purchase from our on board selection or bring your own picnic. £109pp
Premium Standard passengers are seated in 1960’s open carriages with large picture windows. The carriage has individual seating around tables of four laid with white linen tablecloth. You are served complimentary tea or coffee at your seats and can purchase from our on board selection of snacks or bring your own picnic. Price for the Plymouth – Par return £69pp
