A new entrance scheme at The Greenbank has provided a showcase for two high-flying graduates from Falmouth University.

Award winning artist Amy Albright paints abstract landscape oil paintings and exhibits nationally as well as completing commissions for Interior design schemes and private collections.

Matt Hulme runs his own interior design practice called Dynargh Design working on projects throughout the UK.

Now more than 10 years later they have returned to Falmouth to collaborate on the Greenbank's new refurbishment.

Hotels are becoming real art destinations, a place to view original art work and a platform for artists to get more exposure.

Ben Young, managing director at The Greenbank, said: “At The Greenbank we are in an enviable position in being able to show off the very best of our wonderful county to thousands of visitors each year.

We strive to achieve that aim through the use of only the very best of local talent, combined with the best of local hospitality, the amalgamation of which creates an authentic and rich cultural experience for all our guests. We are delighted with the bespoke local art produced by Amy Albright for our latest area to come under the eye of our interior designer Matt Hulme.

"Since we started working with Matt we have always favoured using locally sourced products over mass produced imports, we view this as not only highly important for our local economy, but also to ensure the most authentic Cornish experience possible.”

Amy was commissioned to create six paintings earlier this year, using her unique semi-abstract style in which she builds layers of oil paint with glazes creating an enchanting finish. 'I took inspiration from the local area, particularly focusing at areas where land and water meet, but I like to let the paint guide me a little, making gestural marks, dripping and imprinting with rags and responding to the paint, I'm delighted with the outcome and it's been a pleasure working with Matt Hulme from Dynargh Design.' says Amy.

Matt Hulme has been involved in the gradual refurbishment of The Greenbank Hotel since 2015 and has designed the new bar, Waters Edge Restaurant, the Working Boat Pub and the creation of two new feature bedroom Suites – The Florence Suite and The Look Out Suite. ‘Guests have really engaged with the fact that the artwork is from a local artist, rather than being purchased from a generic source’ says Matt.

Amy grew up in Lostwithiel, studied Fine art at University College Falmouth and now works from her studio at Krowji in Redruth.

Matt grew up in Gloucestershire before moving to study at Falmouth College of Arts, as it was called then, in 2001. After graduating Matt moved to London to start his career where he secured a position as one of the lead interior designers for the boutique hotel group Malmaison and Hotel du Vin.

After working at some leading design practices Matt took the decision to set up Dynargh Design in 2011 and hasn’t looked back since.
