FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze near Redruth early this morning.

Two appliances from Tolvaddon and a whole-time officer were mobilised at 5.43am and two breathing apparatus and two hose reel hets were used to extinguish the fire.

On arrival at the agricultural building in Skinners Bottom, they discovered one stable block, approximately four metres by four metres, well alight.

Crews remained on the scene damping down and turning over.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Every year we attend numerous fires on farms, where buildings are completely destroyed by fire, often with the loss of large amounts of stock, straw, hay, farm machinery, chemicals and even livestock."
The service has produced a booklet in partnership with Cornish Mutual and NFU Mutual to help farms comply with the new fire laws.
The booklet contains the information on the following:
• What you’re required to do by law
• Fire safety risk assessments
• If a fire breaks out
• Controlled burning
• Dangerous substances
• Arson
