People in Cornwall are being asked to share a memory or photograph on social media of something that makes them happy today.

The campaign to create a 'worldwide smile' for World Mental Health Day is the brainchild of Speak Up Cornwall, who are part of Young People Cornwall and are all between 11 and 21 years old.

They have been creating a series of short video clips showing what makes them happy and the positive support services for young people that are available across Cornwall.

India, 17, from Truro, said: “At Speak Up Cornwall we wanted to create a campaign to promote positive mental health and the positivity everyone strives to feel and embrace throughout their lives.

“Happiness is such a vital aspect for young people, members of our community and everyone’s lives.

“This is why we’re asking people to post a picture or memory that makes them smile and share it to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with the #worldwidesmile. We really hope that people across the world will get behind this campaign as part of World Mental Health Day."

Mark Rundle, NHS Kernow’s commissioning project manager for the Children and Young People programme, said: “Stand Up Cornwall has already contributed so much to helping to share information about what help and services are available for young people who may be struggling with poor mental health.

“The #worldwidesmile for World Mental Health Day is another example of how Speak Up Cornwall is making a positive difference to young people’s lives. I’m sharing a photograph of what makes me happy and I hope that people will join me in doing the same. This action could have a really positive impact on someone else’s life.”

Charlotte Brasier, Young People Cornwall participation worker, said: “Speak UP Cornwall has been working really hard to produce the short videos encouraging people to share a photographs of what makes them happy as part of World Mental Health Day. The videos also aim to signpost young people to support services in Cornwall and they should be really proud of the results.”
