ALMOST 2,000 poppies have been produced following an amazing response from local crafters to the community project for Remembrance Sunday.

The poppies will be attached to knitted and crocheted green chains and displayed round the trunks of the trees by the War Memorial in Kimberley Park.

Organiser Jenny Lake said: "Thanks to everyone who has participated in this project by making poppies, donating wool and buttons; to local businesses who have displayed our poster and to the staff at Kimberley Park who have made us welcome to knit some poppies on site.

"With your help we have over 1,900 poppies. Thanks also to Falmouth Town Council for allowing this project to go ahead."

Poppies can be accepted until the end of October.

If you would like to participate please email jenny.lake@live.co.uk for a copy of the pattern.

Completed poppies should be handed in to Falmouth Town Council office in the Old Post Office Building on The Moor.

Weather permitting, the poppies will be on display for the month of November.

If the poppies have not been damaged by the weather they will be made into brooches and sold next year with the proceeds being donated to the British Legion.

If they cannot be saved, the buttons will be collected and sold and the money donated to the British Legion.
