Oyster lovers in Falmouth finally got their hands back on some shellfish yesterday, leading to a successful, albeit delayed, continuation of this year’s Falmouth Oyster Festival.
It was all hands to shucking when the festival finally got underway again at 3pm on Saturday, more than 24 hours after the festival had to close due to the arrival of Storm Callum.
Strong winds on Friday and Saturday morning made it unsafe to open the marquee at Events Square.
Friday’s afternoon parade was initially called off due to the forecast rain, before the whole day had to be cancelled.
Thankfully, by yesterday afternoon the wind had dropped enough to launch the remainder of the festival.

Despite the later start time for the day, the marquee was still filled with people to watch a cookery demonstration from Annie Sibert, of My Fish Kitchen in Mawnan Smith, and Stuart Shaw of the St Michael's Hotel in Falmouth.
The festival ends today with a full programme running all day, with dry and bright weather for visitors to enjoy the remainder of what is offer.
The programme for today is as advertised.
