A MAN in his 40s has spent more than 20 hours on the roof of a Truro house.

Police negotiators were called to George Street at around 11am yesterday after the man climbed onto a roof and started throwing tiles.

He was is said to have caused "substantial damage" to the roof by pulling tiles off and throwing them down.

More than a dozen officers have been involved in the incident which has entered a second day, with the man alternating between roofs, still dressed in luminous cycling clothes and a bike helmet.

Roads in the immediate area remain closed for the safety of the public. Richmond Hill leading to Truro Train Station and Ferris Town have been closed in both ways. 

A police spokesperson said: "Emergency services including police negotiators are at the scene and are working towards a peaceful resolution."
