FIREFIGHTERS continue to monitor the scene at Mabe after tacking a big barn fire yesterday afternoon.

Numerous 999 calls were made by members of the public just before 4pm yesterday and on arrival at Antron Farm, between College Reservoir and Argal Reservoir, fire crews found a barn well alight and requested further resources.

The barn measured 20 by 30 metres and contained 150 bales and farm machinery.

Further appliances from Truro and Tolvaddon attended, also in attendance were the water carrier from Helston and support resources from St Just and St Austell.

A further appliance from Truro arrived at the scene around 5pm, after the roof of the building is believed to have collapsed.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets at the scene, while ground monitors were used to extinguish the fire.

Some fire crews left the scene at 8.30pm, however, there are currently appliances from Falmouth and St Austell, plus a water carrier, remaining on scene to monitor the situation.

There are unconfirmed reports that police are talking to a man near Mabe in connection with the incident.
