Porthleven's mayor has described allegations of negativity as "laughable."

Andrew Wallis has been speaking after Trevor Osborne hit back at what he described as the "tiny fraction" who were "continuing to whinge" over planning permission being granted for an Innovation Building in Porthleven Shipyard, on the fourth attempt.

Mr Wallis told the Packet: "I am elected not only as a town councillor, but also as the Cornwall Councillor to represent Porthleven. In that duty I do my very best to hear both sides.

"In the case of the shipyard building it is not a very small minority, but a very large number of people who are against this building. This building is being imposed upon Porthleven without a thought to the wishes of its residents.

"As for the comment about my constant negativity is laughable. In all the years I have been a councillor, this building is the only planning application I have totally objected and taken a stand on as it is just wrong for Porthleven."

Mr Wallis also defended the residents of Porthleven who Mr Osborne claimed should now accept the decision "in good grace".

Mr Wallis said: "I also find it hard to believe when Mr Osborne says people should now respect the decision. He didn’t respect the democratic decision the three previous times this application was refused."

"I will continue to do my very best for Porthleven. If Mr Osborne finds that tiresome, then maybe he should actually engage with the people who live here all the time and ask them what they would like. Not to have just one person's vision on what they think Porthleven should be."
