More than 400 people have signed the petition calling on Cornwall Council to extend the opening hours of Truro Park and Ride.

The petition, led by Truro and Falmouth MP Sarah Newton, urges the council to open the service seven days a week, from 6.30am to 8.30pm, and allow overnight parking.

The changes would benefit staff, volunteers and visitors to Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske and commuters and visitors to Truro, while reducing congestion on the busy A390.

Sarah’s campaign has been backed by a wide variety of people, including local councillors, staff at Treliske and regular visitors to the hospital.

Further signatures were collected at an action day in St Agnes, where Sarah and a 12-strong team of volunteers delivered leaflets and conducted surveys.

“Extending the opening hours of the park and ride would make a real difference for local people, especially hospital staff, patients and visitors,” said Sarah.

“With Cornwall Council considering changes to parking charges across the county, with the possibility of big increases in some cases, the park and ride could become an even more attractive option for drivers.

“I have met council officers to discuss extending the opening hours and they are drawing up plans to do so.

“If people want to see these changes, it is important they sign the petition to demonstrate their support and send a strong message to the council.

“Signing the petition is simple and only takes a matter of seconds. Just fill in the online form under the campaigns tab on my website at www.sarahnewton.org.uk and share it on social media to spread the word.”
