Falmouth Coastguard Rescue team saved a dog and its owner from a cliff in Mawnan.

The team were tasked along with Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue team at 3.45pm yesterday (Tuesday October 30).

They arrived to find that an the unfortunate pooch had fallen a distance of around 40 metres.

The dog's owner had tried to rescue his beloved pet and found himself stuck as well, unable to climb back up.

A specialist rope technician lowered himself down the cliff face to recover the pair, making two separate trips.

They used a animal rescue bag to carry the canine back to safety after first hauling the man up in a rescue harness.

A spokesperson from the Falmouth team said: "Both teams worked extremely well in less than ideal conditions at the cliff top. Thanks again to Porthoustock for their turnout!"

They went on to inform people of the dangers of walking dogs without leads.

They said: "Please keep your dogs on leads around the cliff paths. If your dog does end up over a cliff, please don't go after it. Don't put yourself at risk. We have specialist equipment for this exact scenario. Call 999 and ask for coastguard."
