HOTEL firm Travelodge says it has received around 1,000 applications for the 15 jobs that are going at its new hotel in Pool.

The budget hotel chain said it was "a record" level of interest.

Hotel manager for what will be named the Camborne-Redruth Travelodge, Julian Knowles, said that the calibre of candidates was so high that he hired his full team in just one day.

In all, six receptionists and nine housekeeping team members were appointed.

The new Camborne-Redruth Travelodge team are now undergoing training at St Austell Travelodge so they are ready to manage their hotel when it opens prior to Christmas.

Camborne-Redruth Travelodge, a 63-room hotel with on-site car-parking, represents an investment of £5 million for the landlord and will offer rooms from £29.

It will share the Gas Lane site with a new KFC, Costa Coffee and Marston's pub.

Mr Knowles said: “I have been overwhelmed by the record number of applications I received for the 15 positions I advertised. I was looking for individuals that are passionate about delivering great customer service and I am delighted to announce that I have a great team in place.

“My focus now is to train my team so that we can all hit the ground running and be prepared for the festive season. It looks like we will be the spare room provider this Christmas for local residents who have visiting family and friends.

“Interestingly, I may have one of the greenest team commuter footprints across the Travelodge portfolio as literally all of my team live within five minutes’ of the hotel, with just one team member who lives in Helston.”

Camborne-Redruth Travelodge is one of 11 hotels the budget hotel chain is opening in the lead up to Christmas.
