Hamworthy United 3, Falmouth Town 1 (AET)

Falmouth Town’s FA Vase hopes were cruelly ended in extra-time at Dorset club Hamworthy United on Saturday.

Jordan Annear had put Town a goal up on his 100th appearance for the club midway through the second half.

The Cornish club were just five minutes from progression to the next round when Hamworthy striker Dan Cann levelled to take the game to extra-time.

Cann completed the turnaround five minutes into the added period before winning a penalty ten minutes later for Nathan Walker to convert and send the Wessex League club through.

Town were not their usual lively selves in the first half but still threatened with Luke Johnson, Joe Cooper and Tim Nixon all getting shots away.

Falmouth ‘keeper Ryan Barnes was forced into making a coupe of saves, while James Filkins blazed over from 12 yards.

Town took the lead on 62 minutes when Tim Nixon surged past a defender and squared to Annear who rifled home from eight yards.

Town were minutes away from a place in the third round when the hosts snatched an equaliser. A ball into the box was cleared off the line by James Ward, with Cann on hand on poke the ball home from close range.

The game went to extra-time and Cann struck again on 95 minutes when he evaded the visiting defence and slotted in from ten yards.

With Town looking for an equaliser, Hamworthy were able to counter and earned a penalty when Cann was brought down, with Walker placing the ball to Barnes’ right to seal victory.
