The Queen will be wearing a poppy all the way from Helston as she marks 100 years since Armistice Day this weekend.

Jenny Harvey, Poppy Appeal organiser for Helston and the surrounding villages, was invited to Buckingham Palace to take corsages for the Queen, the Princess Royal Anne and the head of the household at the palace.

She was then set up by the front door, to sell poppies to the palace household.

Jenny said: "It was lovely."

She initially thought it was a joke when she received a telephone call at 9.30pm one evening, inviting her to Buckingham Palace. It was not until she was congratulated by the area organiser the next day that she realised she would be one of only six people in the whole of the UK to be going to London this year to sell poppies at Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and Clarence House.

Jenny does not know who nominated her for such an honour and can only assume it is because in the four years since taking over the organisation of the Helston appeal she has more than doubled the amount raised, collecting more than £100,000 in her area of Helston, Culdrose, Gweek, Gunwalloe and Trewennack.

However, said she could not do it without the support of her husband Stuart and the dedicated team of volunteer collectors who spend hours selling poppies.

"You're only as good as the people that help you. I know I organise it, but if I didn't have collectors like I've got I wouldn't be able to do it," she said.
