A campaign group set up to save the future of Porthleven Post Office is looking for extra members as its co-founder is forced to step down due to ill health.

In a statement released by the Save Porthleven Post Office Campaign group this lunchtime, it was revealed that Rod Stephens had stepped down from his involvement.

Mr Stephens, together with Mike Carter, set up the group following a public meeting in Porthleven Public Hall in September, with the aim of starting a £30,000 fundraising appeal and creating a website for the post office.

Falmouth Packet:

Rod Stephens has had to step down due to ill health

It was after post office owners Paul and Sharon Edwards told the Packet that their business had “literally run out of money” and the future was bleak, prompting the community to rally behind the couple.

Mike said: “We regret to announce Rod Stephens has reluctantly had to relinquish his commitment to the Save Porthleven Post Office Campaign due to ongoing health issues both for himself and his close family.

“I am sure we all wish him well and thank him for the part he plaid in establishing the way forward in an effort to save the Post Office for the benefit of the community.”

With the help of Rod’s background in marketing, many businesses have now got on board with their own fundraising deals, individuals have made donations and there is a Crowdfunding page at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/michael-carter-1. A website has also been set up.

Mike added: “Rod wishes the group every success in the campaign, which continues to receive support from people and businesses near and far.

“The group has a number of ongoing fundraising projects, details of which will be released as and when the date approaches.”
