TWO vessels broke their moorings on Saturday, one crashing into a pier.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said it was called out at around 11am on Saturday to reports of a vessel aground at Well Beach, Falmouth.

When they arrived on the scene, members of the team found that a yacht had broken its moorings and gone aground.

Team members obtained the vessel's details to pass to the harbour office and secured it to prevent further damage.

At around 6pm the same day the team was tasked to another vessel having broken its moorings, this time crashing into Prince Of Wales Pier.

A spokesman for the team said: "Given the risk to the public with the mast whipping up over the top of the pier and the vessel in danger of breaking up under the pier, it was decided to try and move the vessel to shelter.

"The vessel was moved out from under the pier and tied alongside out of the worst of the swell. Sadly the vessel had picked up some damage in the storm."

Details were again collected for the harbour office to follow up.
