Sunday was the perfect autumnal, dry day for a bird walk at Argal and College Lakes.

Hosted by South West Lakes Trust and Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society, the group was varied, from seasoned bird watchers to complete beginners, which was fantastic to see.

Led by expert Dan Chaney and senior countryside warden Beth Cross, the walk wound all around Argal Lake, then along the pathway into the College Lake Nature Reserve.

The route passed through a great range of habitats: woodland, open water, grassland, farmland and willow carr.

The group identified over 30 species in total, including some ducks and waterfowl such as wigeon, pochard and great crested grebe – in addition to some woodland favourites and even the elusive yellow browed warbler.

Autumn and winter are particularly interesting seasons for bird watching, considering the number of migrant species arriving and leaving.

Beth said: "Thank you to everyone who came along; we look forward to running a similar event again next year."
