The switching on of the Christmas lights in St Keverne this year promises to be bigger and better than ever before thanks to a number of new features being introduced.

Taking place in the village square on Friday, December 7, this year's display will include community carol singing from 6.30pm. This will be led by Maen Voes Choir from the village, accompanied by St Keverne Band, and there will be carol sheets available for anyone else wanting to take part.

Another new addition will be the craft fair, which the new lights committee has organised to take place in the function room of the White Hart. More than 15 stalls have been booked by craft makers in the area, giving plenty to see before and after the switch on.

The lights will then be switched on at 7pm and Father Christmas will arrive to give presents to all the children, in his brand new grotto.

More carol singing with the choir and music from the band will take place after the switch on, giving people the chance to stay and have something to eat and buy tickets for this year's Christmas Draw, which will be drawn on the night. First prize is £150 in cash, with a hamper as second prize and a luxury Christmas cake from Kellie's Kakes as third, plus many other prizes. Tickets are already for sale in the village shop, newsagents and both pubs, as well as via PayPal through the St Keverne Christmas Lights Facebook page.

There will be a barbecue as well as mulled wine for sale, with proceeds going towards next year's lights display, plus 'crispy hot cakes' from Bite Me Catering and Mee-chelle's hot doughnuts.
