It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Helston following the opening of the town's very own themed shop - but be quick as there's a limited shelf life.

The Christmas pop up shop has opened in Meneage Street, in the former Oxfam charity shop, selling all things festive.

It is raising money for the Fisherman's Mission, which has a dedicated charity shop - the only one in the UK - further down the same street.

Officially opened on Saturday by town mayor John Martin, it is now packed full of almost everything you need for the big day, from decorations and Christmas jumpers to fancy dress, party shoes and hundreds of brand new gift items collected during an 'unwanted gift amnesty' last December.

Melinda King, who is behind the shop, said: "It's been brilliant. I'm really pleased and everyone seems to like it. The thing I really want everyone to know is that everything in there has been donated."

Helston photographer Jake Riding has also donated four of his images to be turned into cards by Dean Bray of Complete Business Solutions (formerly Brewers) for exclusive sale by the Fishermen's Mission, costing £1 each or £3.50 for four.

Helping launch the shop on Saturday were the Severn Whalers, an eight-piece singing group from Bristol, who were in Cornwall for a festival in St Ives but volunteered to be in Helston to support the charity.

This Friday, during Helston's Christmas lights switch on, the shop will become a "child only zone" from 5pm, giving children the chance buy presents for their family as surprises on Christmas Day. Staff will also wrap the presents and help the children write labels.

However, the shop will not be there forever, only staying open until the beginning of January.
