Falmouth Rotary Club staged a charity quiz night at Mawnan Memorial Hall in Mawnan Smith on Thursday November 29, organised by Rod and Pauline Allday.

There was a packed hall with nearly 100 people taking part and a total of twenty-four teams participating in the event.

Teams comprised members of the Rotary Club and local quiz teams. The first three places went to regular quizzers, Hogwarts, Jubilee Yeo and Flash Chambers, with several Rotary teams close on their heels.

There was a great atmosphere in the hall and a good time was had by all, with the fantastic sum of £634 raised for the Rotary Charity account.

Also, on the evening there was a presentation to the Rotary Club by the Mawnan Fun Run Committee of a cheque for £2500 representing the monies raised by this year’s Mawnan Fun Run.

Rod Allday, Chairman of Mawnan Fun Run Committee said, ‘‘This event has continued to grow year on year since Falmouth Rotary Club took over the organisation of the event in 2016, with this year around 300 runners taking part.

"The event is well-regarded amongst the local running community, with runners from local clubs participating in the 5k and 10k races and there is a great turnout from children in the village to take part in the fun run.

"The committee is greatly indebted to local businesses for their generous sponsorship of the event, which enables us to offer excellent prizes.”

Planning will begin in the new year for the 2019 event, to be staged on Sunday September 29.
