A DRINK driver from Helston has been banned from the roads for 14 months.

Sharon Trathen, aged 50, of Hawkins Way, admitted committing the offence on November 17 in a silver VW Polo.

She had 45mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

She was fined £230 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

A MAN who drove whilst more than twice the legal alcohol limit has appeared before Truro magistrates.

Michael Lee Twitchett, aged 46, of Town Farm, Redruth, admitted committing the offence at McDonalds restaurant, in Truro, on November 19.

He had 82mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

He was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £184 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

A REDRUTH woman who drove while over the legal alcohol limit has been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Joanne Lisa Watson, aged 48, of Dopps Terrace, admitted committing the offence in Truro on November 16.

Watson, who had 72mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath, also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and without an MoT certificate.

She was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

A WOMAN has denied stealing four buoyancy aids from a Penryn store.

Claire Louise Wright, aged 33, of no fixed address, has also pleaded not guilty to four charges of theft from two Redruth shops.

Wright is accused of stealing the buoyancy aids to the value of £260 from Macsalvors in Penryn on May 12; two bottles of perfume worth £76 from Superdrug in Redruth on September 30; kitchen gift sets and cocktails mixers worth £50 from Wilko in Redruth on October 9; confectionery worth £9 from Wilko on October 4; five bottles of fragrances worth £180 from Superdrug on October 29.

She has been remanded on unconditional bail until January 15.

A MAN who committed a string of thefts has been sent to prison for 16 weeks.

Andrew Richard Card, aged 42, of St Clare Street, Penzance, pleaded guilty to a total of seven offences:

May 30 - Stole £50 of goods from W H Smith in Penzance

June 20 - Stole £180 of goods from Asda in Hayle

July 1 - Stole a woman's purse containing bank cards in Penzance

- Withdrew £250 cash using a stolen Santander bank card

- Withdrew £250 cash using a stolen Santander visa card

- Withdrew £20 using a stolen Santander visa card

Sept 5 - Possession of 0.31g of diamorphine

Magistrates gave a jail sentence because the "offence was so serious, deliberate offending, spree of offending, previous convictions and harm to pensioner".

He was also ordered to pay a total of £750 compensation.

A TRURO man admitted drink driving when he appeared before the city's magistrates.

Connor Dennison, aged 20, of Newham Road, committed the offence in an Audi A3 on October 14 in Fairmantle Street. He had 63mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

He was banned for 17 months and fined £300. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

BEING drunk and disorderly has resulted in a fine for a Camborne man.

Terry Robert Smith, aged 42, of Bassett Road, admitted committing the offence on October 31.

He was fined £50 and ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge.

Smith was in breach of a conditional discharge, but magistrates decided to take no further action.

A FALMOUTH drink driver has been handed a community order after being almost four times over the legal limit.

Karrie Louise Stephens, aged 39, of Beech Road, admitted committing the offence on May 23 in a VW Golf on Tresillian Road.

She had 126mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath, with the limit just 35mcgs.

Stephens will be electronically monitored for six months and is banned from driving for 30 months.

She was ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

A MAN has been sent to prison for 12 weeks after going on a crime spree.

Nathan Paul Tracey, aged 40, of no fixed address, committed a string of offences in Truro and Penzance.

He admitted stealing two bottles of wine from Hendra Stores in Truro on October 16.

On December 1, he took a red Seat Ibiza without the owner's consent and caused injury to a man after driving dangerously.

On the same day he stole car fuses, nut and bolts from a man in Camborne, before driving the Seat in Penzance on the following day without a licence or insurance.

He then failed to provide a specimen of blood when required to do so as part of a police investigation.

Magistrates said the reason for custody were because the "offence was so serious because of the spree of offending; car taken without consent in a dangerous manner, causing damage to two vehicles while under the influence".

He was banned from driving for 19 months and ordered to pay a total of £518 compensation.

A MAN who drove without insurance has been disqualified from driving for eight months.

Matthew Joseph Taylor, aged 21, of Treloweth Close, St Erth, admitted committing the offence on the A30 at Hayle on March 23.

He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

A FISHERMAN and his employers have been fined a total of more than £60,000 for fishing in prohibited waters and failing to submit an electronic logbook.

Richard Brian Carroll, aged 43, of Lower Church Street, Newlyn, and Rowse Fishing Ltd, of Newbridge, both committed a total of eight offences last year in fishing vessel Harriet Eve.

Carroll, the master of the boat, originally denied five counts of failing to send the logbook between September 30 and October 27 last year, before changing his plea to guilty before Truro magistrates on Tuesday.

He pleaded not guilty to three charges of fishing within the area of the Isles of Scilly Inshore Fisheries and Conservation district, but he was found guilty and fined a a total of £21,490, of which £7,500 was costs and a £170 victim surcharge.

Rowse Fishing Ltd, the owner of the boat, answered the same charges and was fined £42,670, of which £7,500 was costs and £170 victim surcharge.
