The search for missing woman Joanna Aplin is continuing into a fourth day as police look into the possibility of using drones to help find her.

The 61-year-old was last seen at her home in Cadgwith at around 7am on Wednesday. Concerns were raised that same day and her vehicle was found in Coverack.

By 7pm a search of the area had begun involved coastguards from Porthleven, Mullion and Porthoustock rescue teams, along with the Lizard lifeboat, coastguard helicopter and police.

After five hours of searching the teams were stood down for the night, before reassembling the following day at 10am to continue looking for another five hours, with the help of the police helicopter.

Since then the hunt has continued in the area surrounding where her vehicle was found, with specialist police search officers out again today with the force helicopter.

Police are also speaking with Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service about the possibility of teams helping in the search.

They have additionally looked into the possibility of using drones, but due to the poor weather conditions, including strong winds, they have so far been unable to fly them.

Force incident manager John Shuttleworth said this afternoon that police remained very concerned about Ms Aplin.

He said: “Searches are continuing in cliff areas, surrounding fields and open land, in and around the vicinity of where Joanne’s vehicle was located. This has included aerial searches from the police helicopter and, if weather permits, the use of police drones.

“Investigating officers have reviewed the incident as well as identified other lines of enquiry away from the immediate vicinity.

“Joanne remains a high priority missing person at this time and police continue to be very concerned for her safety and whereabouts,”

Officers are appealing for anyone who sees Joanna to contact them via 999.

She is described as white, around 5ft 3ins tall, and has grey shoulder length hair. She was last seen wearing a grey jersey, a blue anorak, jeans and brown walking boots.

If you see Joanna or know of her whereabouts please contact police via 999, quoting log number 652 of 05/12/18.
