Santa travelled in his customary pony and trap to Mawgan Church Christmas Bazaar, where he was greeted by his assistant elf.

Graham Caines took him as far as Mawgan Recreation Hall, where visitors were enjoying the many games, homemade cakes and colourful Christmas items for sale.

The tombola and strawboard had people returning until all the prizes went and the team in the kitchen kept everyone refreshed with tea and cakes. Younger children visited Santa and his elf for presents.

Keen competition in the games room kept the marble game, hoopla, and the bagatelle busy and the raffles were all well supported. The Benney family once again were particularly successful in winning prizes.

The final takings reached more than £700, which organisers were pleased with for a Saturday when there were many other events nearby.

They said: "The church would like to thank everyone who made and donated goods and gave so freely of their time, and of course to all who came and spent their money to make the day successful.

"The money will be used for the normal running and maintenance of the church now that the restoration project is complete."
