An artist and Marine Biology student at the University of Exeter's Penryn campus has designed the can for one of Padstow Brewing Co.'s latest beers - Cold Skies Brut IPA.

Sophie created the design by manipulating a photo of a Portugese man o' war jellyfish

Sophie Bennett, 21, is a third year student at the university, and says she had trouble deciding whether to pursue a course in art or science.

She became friends with one of the company's brewers whilst volunteering for Polzeath Marine Conservation Group in the summer.

She said: "When I heard Padstow Brewing Co. wanted to use my designs, I was at home and proceeded to dance round the house to 'Dancing on the Ceiling'.

"The satisfaction I felt from my artwork being useful to others was so much greater than I've felt any time I've handed in an assignment.

"I was so proud of how good the designs looked in the window of their tasting shop in Padstow."

She went on to say: "Cold Skies is a photo manipulation of one of the many Portuguese man o' war that got washed up in the storms, so I guess it's kind of fitting that this design was released in the winter.

"My other designs were photo manipulations of a compass jellyfish that had also been washed up, and one of mackerel scales since that seems to be all I catch when fishing at a local spot."

Cold Skies Brut IPA is available from The Bottle Bank in Falmouth or the Padstow Brewing Co. tasting room in Padstow.

The beer can also be purchased from the Padstow Brewing Co. website: padstowbrewing.co.uk.
