Falmouth Support Group for Cornwall Hospice Care hosted their popular Ladies Day and raised a tremendous £1,512 recently.

A packed day awaited more than 100 ladies, who all gathered to support Cornwall’s adult hospices at the stunning setting of the Penmorvah Manor Hotel at Budock Water.

After coffee and biscuits to welcome all the guests, chair of the group Christine Morris greeted everyone and as has become customary, started the day with a jolly good joke.

She said: “Our Ladies Day is now in its 20th year and it has grown so much in that time. My thanks go to all our committee members who have worked so hard and donated many of today’s raffle prizes. Thanks also to our wonderful venue – nothing has been too much trouble for them.”

A floristry demonstration followed thanks to Angela Hyland from St Austell who is a qualified flower-arranging demonstrator and teacher working throughout Cornwall and Devon.

She kept the crowd enthralled with her stories and anecdotes; all while making lots of festive displays as she talked.

After a break for a delicious lunch provided by the hotel, there was a chance for everyone to take part in the raffle and make some purchases from the Hospice New Goods stall.

The afternoon saw a fashion show take place, organised by Angela Cortis of The March Hare ladies’ clothes shop in Falmouth. With models ranging in age from 21 to 70, Angela brought a stunning range of 60 outfits, from day dresses and outfits to cocktail and evening dresses.

She said: “It’s hard work putting on a fashion show with all the behind-the-scenes organisation, but it’s my way of giving something to help charities such as Cornwall Hospice Care.”
