Constantine Social Club host their Senior Christmas lunch for members of its community on Sunday.
Asda Community Champion Lisa Kirkpatrick went along to help after giving the club a £500 grant from Asda Foundation earlier in the year to help fund the event.
Alongside the traditional turkey dinner, beef was on offer which was cooked by Jackie and served by volunteers organised by Cy Prynn.
One of the volunteers, Donna, told Lisa how much she enjoyed the experience and that it was a pleasure to see so many come together and have fun.
Some of the people dining, including one affectionately known as ‘Grandad’ live alone in the village.
“I cook from scratch every day for myself but it’s lovely to come here and be cooked for and enjoy the company with it,” he told Lisa. “This opportunity means so much to all of us.”
Homemade Pavlova, trifle or flaming Christmas pudding with freshly made clotted cream from Treleague Dairy were the scrumptious delights served for dessert.
“Without this donation from Asda and the support of the volunteers,” stated chairman Dick Just, as he gave thanks to all those giving their time and talent to help.
He added: “It is unlikely that we would have been able to run this lunch this year but we do hope we can continue this tradition and bring our senior community members together every year.”
