Hundreds of people have given the gift of fundraising this Christmas by taking part in runs all over Cornwall.

This year's Santa Runs in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care saw more than 700 people donning big red trousers and and jackets to join runs at Wadebridge, Padstow, Truro and Falmouth, as well as Helston on Sunday as pictured.

All who got involved had the same aim: to raise as much money as possible to help fund the round-the-clock specialist care that the charity provides for those coping with terminal illness in the Duchy.

Head of fundraising for the charity Oliver Hoare said: "Thanks to everyone who has taken part, to our title sponsors Ann's Cottage and to the Co-Operative who provided the mince pies for all our Santa events, and we would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas."

People could sign in and collect their outfits for Helston's event from 12.30pm on Sunday, at Helston Bowling Club.

There was then a warm up to get the muscles moving at 1.45pm, ready for the run to get underway at 2pm after a short countdown.

There were two routes to choose from, a 1.5km and a 3km, with both starting and finishing at the Grylls Monument at the bottom of Coinagehall Street.

The shorter one went up Coinagehall Street into Wendron Street, before cutting through to Beacon Parc and along Kingsley Way to head back along the lower part of Trengrouse Way and The Parade, down Meneage Street and back along Trengrouse Way.

The longer route started the same way but continued from Wendron Street up Godolphin Road to the roundabout, along past Tesco to the traffic lights and taking in the whole of Trengrouse Way to meet up with the same return section.

Afterwards, all who took part were given a mince pie and a medal. There were also prizes for the best dressed, including dogs and buggies.
