The Christmas nativity story was brought to life in Ponsanooth for the first time this year.

As the congregation of Ponsanooth Methodist Chapel sang carols around the village, members of the village community theatre group joined them to perform a “promenade nativity.”

Villager John Hoyland had given the story a modern theme, mentioning Premier Inn and Travelodge, but traditional costumes were worn.

The main actors were Linda Peet as the donkey and narrator, Katy Murphy as Mary, Martin Beckett as Joseph, Rosie Barton as one of the ‘wise women’, Derran Sandercock as the main shepherd and Fabian Ebner as Angel Gabriel, with star carrier Keith Salisbury.

Sally Beckett, who was among helping with the event, said: “A really good crowd turned out on a soggy evening. Let’s hope this becomes an annual happening!”
