Rock Choir, the UK’s largest contemporary choir, is inviting locals to attend a free session to help boost their natural high and beat the winter blues this January!

With no audition and no need to read music, Rock Choir has already attracted nearly 30,000 members nationwide and is recognised as an award-winning national brand.

Its uplifting ethos of fun, friendship and community spirit is a huge part of its attraction, while its inclusive and accessible teaching approach allows anyone who simply loves pop-music to take part.

With groups in Helston, Falmouth, Truro and St Austell, there are lots of opportunities to experience the significant natural high that is created from singing in a group.

A recent experiment conducted by BBC’s Trust Me I’m a Doctor proved that Rock Choir members experienced a rise of 40 per cent in endocannabinoids, the ‘happy’ chemicals released in our brain, after taking part in a Rock Choir session.

This impressive result was compared to just 20 per cent up-lift after they had taken part in dancing and cycling and, furthermore, should have a profound effect on the way our well-being and mental health is supported from now on.

Choir members from the county have most recently enjoyed performing over the festive period, including Flambards Christmas Market and Lemon Quay, Truro, for last-minute shoppers.

Choir leader Jo Saville said: “We are really looking forward to spring and summer events, which will include ‘Rock meets Brass’ at the Minack Theatre, where we are excited to be singing alongside St Pinnock Band for the second time (following our concert at Sterts Theatre last summer) and we are set to entertain guests of the WI Garden Party at the beautiful Boconnoc House.

We are also returning to St John’s Church, St Austell, to raise funds for the only hospital in Bangladesh, amongst other events in the pipeline. It’s not all about performing though, and members are not obliged to attend these events; the weekly sessions themselves are fun and a great way to make friends.”

Many Cornish Rockies travelled to London’s Hyde Park in September to take part in a special BBC/Rock Choir Flash Mob at the iconic Proms in the Park.
