A GAS leak under a main road in Truro will force the closure of the wesbound carriageway today.

Wales and West Utilities will carry out the work on Tresawls Road, meaning the lane heading towards Threemilestone will be shut on the A390.

Paul Taylor, operational manager for Cornwall said: "We will be working in the Tresawls Road area of Truro to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

"In agreement with Cornwall Council and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, we will need to close the westbound lane along Tresawls Road.

"Traffic lights will be in place at the junction with Penventinnie Lane leading to Highertown and a diversion route will be clearly signposted.

Mr Taylor said that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the leak is expected to be fixed and the road fully reopened by Saturday afternoon.

He added: “As this essential work is likely to cause some disruption, we would kindly advise road users to plan ahead and use alternative routes if possible.

"We appreciate that working on roads such as this is not ideal, but it is important that we fix this leak now, in order to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to homes and businesses.”
