A Falmouth and Cornwall councillor has criticised the government's approach to Brexit.
Councillor for Penwerris ward Mathew McCarthy read out a draft letter to HM Revenue and Customs at a town council meeting noting "serious concern" about a no deal Brexit.
Addressing Falmouth Town Council on Monday, councillor McCarthy said: "We haven't really discussed Brexit in any meaningful way, and thank god for that... but I think it's about time we say something, and I hope that's not too controversial."
Going on to read his draft letter, he said: "Falmouth has long been proud of its status as a centre of global trade throughout history and has remained an outward-looking town with connections across the world within a changing economy.
“The lack of clear information and meaningful communication we have received from the UK Government throughout the Brexit negotiation process has led to uncertainty for Falmouth's businesses and residents alike, and risks damaging consequences for our town.
“Both Leave and Remain voters can agree on one thing - Falmouth deserves better than this”.
The letter was drafted in response to a document from HM Revenue and Customs offering advice in case of a no deal Brexit.
Members of Parliament will vote later today on the terms of the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.
