Falmouth's deputy mayor thanked Cormac workers for their recent improvements at Boscawen Fields by hosting an afternoon tea and cake.

Councillor for Arwenack ward Tony Parker said: "It was a pleasure to host a thank you for such a worthwhile community facility and appreciate volunteers and partner agencies who work so hard to help maintain and enhance one of Falmouth’s valued green open spaces.

"I am pleased that a portion of 106 funds allocated to natural open spaces was made available for the most recent enhancements to Boscawen Fields.

"Residents getting together and getting stuck in in this way adds value to the core services that councils provide, and makes our town an even better place to live."

Lynn Newsham, co-ordinator of the Boscawen Fields Action Group, said: "The fields are loved by the public and are for all to use, and are an area that should be recognised. The group are fortunate that they can go direct to Cormac when any works are required knowing that works will be carried out to a high standard."

Section 106 money comes from a legal agreement between developers and local councils whereby developers must contribute financially to local amenities if their development has also increased the need for such facilities.

The Boscawen Fields Action Group has been running for four years and has been successful in securing £40,000 worth of funds through 106 monies and donations.

These funds have been used for improving the fields with hardwood and stainless steel seats, marine grade handrails and dry stone walling.
