Banter, hilarious stories and non-stop music requests are the order of the day for a pair of best friends who start a new show on BBC Radio Cornwall today (Sunday).

Fresh from presenting the Friday Takeover on Tiffany Truscott's weekday evening show – including some outrageous attempts to break world records live on air – Kath Gibbons and Aimee Williams will be donning their headphones for the station’s Sunday Choice programme every week from midday to 2pm.

“We’re so excited,” Kath said, from Porthleven. “We really want to make the show our own.”

On the agenda will be plenty of music requests as well as a few of the pair’s own features.

The pair met 11 years ago and immediately hit it off, going on to present shows on hospital and community radio for CHBN.

That was until they were scouted by a BBC Radio Cornwall editor at a "radio speed dating event".

Aimee, from Helston, said: “We’re going to have a word of the week which we want people to try and slip seamlessly into conversation – imagine all of Cornwall getting involved in that!”

Kath added: “Although sometimes Aimee isn’t the best at not drawing attention to the word!”

Both have declared that the show will be “all about the listeners”, although there will be plenty of room for a few choice anecdotes.

Aimee said: “We both seem to have an awful lot of unfortunate things happen to us, which are often rather funny, so we’ll be sharing a few of those.

“Basically we are just bringing ourselves each week and we are looking forward to building relationships with the listeners who will be helping us to put the show together with their music choices."

The pair cut their teeth at BBC Radio Cornwall presenting the Friday evening Takeover.

“We loved attempting world records live on air,” Kath explained. “It’s highly visual stuff so obviously great for radio!

“For one of our attempts Aimee was trying to blow a pea across the car park when a car roared in and almost ran her over. She almost died for her art.”

And although the show will be all about requests they say there’s no music they’re dreading having to play.

“We love music and what we’re into is really diverse – we’re definitely happy to play anything," Kath said.

“We’re really looking forward to getting to know our listeners and being a part of playing music that means something to them.”
