Police received reports of a woman with a handgun in Truro yesterday (Thursday January 17).
She was reportedly seen with the gun near the toilets on Lemon Market Street and police were informed at 3.05pm.
Armed officers as well as local police searched the area, but have not yet found any weapons.
No other sightings have been reported.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called a 3:05pm (17/01/19) with a reported sighting of a female in possession of a handgun, near the toilets on Lemon Street Market, in Truro. Armed officers and local units attended and an area search was undertaken.
"A number of people were searched but at this time no weapon has been found, and nor has there been any other reports of a weapon in the area.
"Armed units have since stood down, and the matter is now closed."
