THE Met Office has issued a warning of ice for much of Cornwall overnight.

The vast majority of Cornwall is the subject of a yellow weather warning, with only a few coastal areas expected to escape the freezing conditions.

The warning is in place from midnight until midday tomorrow, when is is expected to form on some surfaces across much of the UK.

A band of rain this evening will clear through by dawn, leaving clearer skies and temperatures as low as three degrees celsius.

What to expect from a yellow weather warning for ice, according to the Met Office:

* Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

* Ice on some roads, pavements and cycle paths

* Some roads and railways affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
