A bid has gone in to turn a Penryn bed store into a mini shopping and restaurant complex.

It relates to the Sweet Dreamzzz bedroom furniture shop in Commercial Road, which is currently running a retirement sale.

Cornwall Council has now received a planning application to subdivide the 467 square metre building into three units, two of which would continue to be shops and the third requesting a change of use to a restaurant.

The plans also include demolishing the external lobby and providing toilets for each unit.

Peter Williams of Top Gear Ltd, which owns the site, already rents an electric bike sales shop opposite and plans to relocate across the road to one of the units.

Documents accompanying the planning application state: "The applicant has also been approached by a number of smaller retailers, as well as a restaurant, who are seeking to occupy the other two units once permission has been secured."

Members of the public have until February 6 to give their views on the development to Cornwall Council, which is due to make a decision by March 12.
