The Russian bulk carrier Kuzma Minin remains in the Cross Channel moored to the No 5 casualty reception buoy in Falmouth, following her ignominious stranding off Gyllyngvase Beach before Christmas.

The Mission to Seafarers is keeping a weather eye on the welfare of the crew.

Chairperson Penny Phillips said: "“I am pleased to advise that a full two weeks’ stores supply is being delivered today to Kuzma Minin – with payment up front by the shipowner.

"We also arranged further fishing equipment to be sent to the vessel yesterday as per the request of the Captain.

On the question of cigarettes, the Captain was content that those few smokers onboard had enough cigarettes, and was not keen (for their health and others onboard) to encourage the delivery of any more at this stage.”

The 23,000 ton vessel remains under detention by the Maritime Coastguard Agency after failing a Port State Control inspection when a number of deficiencies were found:

* Medical equipment, medical chest and guide - expired.

* Inflatable liferafts - expired.

* Seafarer’s employment agreement - expired.

* Provisions quantity – insufficient

* Line throwing apparatus – expired.

* Lifeboats damaged.

* Maritime Labour Certificate – expired.

* Cargo Ship safety equipment – survey overdue.

* Gyro compass inoperative.
