Mount Pleasant Eco Park are excited to welcome Kel Assouf, who fuse music from the Sahara and Europe to create songs about love, hypocrisy and exile.

They will perform on Saturday, February 16. Tickets are £12.

Kel Assouf demonstrate how music of the Sahara sounds when it’s exported to Europe and fused with other influences.

Led by singer, song writer and guitarist Anana Harouna, who sings about Sahara, Niger and Brussels, his short phrases, similar to Japanese haiku, spread a message of peace and respect.

The band's style reflects his roots in Niger and Libya. With one foot in the desert and the other in Europe, Kel Assouf have centred their efforts into an unconventional power trio.

Drummer Olivier Penu and keyboard player Sofyann Ben Youssef perform simultaneously moog bass lines and organ.

Anana’s training started during the Tuareg uprising in the early 1990s when he performed with Tinariwen. The famous Tuareg band are on everyone’s mind when this unique voice and the powerful chords of the desert guitar resonate.

Currently touring the UK to promote their new album release, Kel Assouf make a stop over in Porthtowan at Mount Pleasant Eco Park for a live performance in two weeks' time.

Well known for its live world music performances and Tropical Pressure festival, the venue is an ideal spot for Kel Assouf' only performance south of Bristol.

Support comes from Tropical Pressure DJs on the night ensuring the party goes on until late. Tickets are on sale now from www.mpecopark.co.uk.
