A coach carry students from Truro College left the road and ploughed through a hedge near Truro this morning.

College staff rushed to the scene at Threemilesetone to be with students, who are being offered support.

Photos on social media show emergency service vehicles surrounding the coach, which is off the carriageway and embedded in a hedge at Threemilestone.

The incident has taken place on the A390 near to the Chacewater turn off.

Police were called at around 9am following reports of a bus leaving the road at slow speed.

A police spokesperson said: "The double-decker carrying pupils from Truro College had left the road and gone through a bush before becoming stationary in a field.

"Ambulance and police attended the scene, and can confirm that no pupils were injured. Currently it is believed that the driver had suffered a medical episode and he was treated by ambulance staff at the scene."

A replacement bus was sent by the college and the pupils were taken to the college.

The road was reopened before 10am.

A spokesperson for Truro College said: "The college was made aware of an incident involving one of its buses at 8.50am this morning. Staff from the college immediately attended to offer assistance and to ensure students were looked after.

"Ambulance crews and police officers were also in attendance. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that thankfully there were no reported injuries to college students.

"A replacement bus was provided as soon as possible to transport students into college.

"The college is currently making contact with the parents of all those students identified as being on the bus and the college’s support services offered.

"College staff remain in contact with the police and the bus company to determine the exact cause of the incident.

"Our thoughts and well wishes are with the driver of the bus who is believed to have suffered a medical episode and was treated at the scene."

A subsequent photo from Kelvin Curnow shows the bus on the move again, albeit battered and muddy.
