A celebration of the life of Falmouth sailor Jeff Martin will be held next week following his death during a family skiing holiday in France.

A private committal will be followed by a service at All Saint's Church in Falmouth at 12 noon on Friday, February 15, open to everyone who knew Mr Martin.

This will be followed by refreshments at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, with donations invited in lieu of flowers for the RCYC Sailing Trust and Nankersey Choir.

A further memorial service will be held in early summer.

Mr Martin was hugely respected as executive secretary of the International Laser Class Association for 40 years and had been entered into its 'Hall of Fame'.

He was also the longest serving World Sailing International judge and had been awarded a gold medal for his services to World Sailing. In 2012 he led one of the race management teams at the London Olympic Games.

Mr Martin is survived by his wife Angie and son Charlie.

He is believed to have had a heart attack while skiing in January before falling 30 feet from a ski lift.
